August Maintenance Tip

If you are as active as I am, then you must have spent 2-3 hours weeding your gardens this month and mulching your beds! One suggestion to kill weeds that requires less effort is to spray them on a hot sunny day with a 20% Vinegar solution.

If you still want to plant veggies and herbs for your garden, try Okra, Summer and Winter Squash, Mint, Oregano, Rosemary, Sage. I just harvested my Sunflower seeds, and will post photos in the next entry.

August is a time for intense concentration on irrigation. Apply with patience and be efficient. Water at dawn and dusk, and use drip for vegetable beds. Your lawn will need irrigation 3 times a week for about 10 minutes each time. Your veggies need it everyday. And your newly planted trees will benefit from a slow soaking one time a week.

Mow your lawns high in the shade and as a very general rule 1.5-2" in all other areas.

We are almost to the magic months of Fall, where new gardens can be planted, temperatures drop, and rain falls....Be Patient....
