It is now cold, and you don't feel like doing anything in the garden!
Well, here are a few items you could take care of this December:
- Collect coffee grinds from local coffee shops as they are in full production in the winter months and have plenty of extra grinds to share for your compost and garden.
- Turn the mulch in your beds to give them a fresh appearance.
- Cut back all your perennials or flowering plants if you have not already done this. A general rule to follow is to cut them back to 6" from the ground. Don't worry, they will come back! and look better than before!
- Mow and water less frequently as plants and lawns are dormant. You will not need to water more than once a week to once every ten days. If a hard freeze is upon us, water very thoroughly to help protect from freeze damage.
- Organize your tools, and garden supplies.
- Buy a living Christmas tree that you can plant in your yard, or donate to a school or non-profit after the holiday season.
- Relax and enjoy a fire! (time to make a firepit ? )
