Earth Bag Plastering

So, we finally moved on to plastering the walls of our Earth Bag efficiency. We had about 15 people plastering the 625 sqft efficiency and almost finished the whole thing in a day. Thanks to the cement mixer! We hand mixed some of the plaster in a baby pool and that took a lot longer but was more fun!

We used sand, clay, and straw to create an earthen plaster. The walls were previously constructed out of earth bags, bamboo and some wood slats, filled with earth cob mixture and enclosed with chicken wire and lathe. You can see the wall sprouted before we could plaster.

It is a lot labor to do this type of construction , but the materials are local and cheap. I especially love the curved lines of the walls and the good energy of the space when you walk in.

We built our own windows and sliding glass doors and have almost finished putting them in. Next to come.... earth floors and the final color plaster for the walls.
