Nopales - Easy Cooking

A delicious treat that takes a little prep work but easy to harvest cactus pads is called Nopales. You should wear gloves to harvest them because they have very small spines that get stuck in your fingers. Each pad should be about 6" long.

Cut around the entire edge of the cactus pad and then scrub the surface with a bristly sponge. Then you can cut them in thin slices to be boiled. I like to boil them for about 8 minutes, then run them through the colander to rinse off the slime. Then, boil them again for another 5 minutes, and rinse. I mixed them with fajitas spices and beans to make tacos.
You can also grill the pads as a delicious cacti steak!
