Bugger Off! - Mosquito Control

Mosquito Control

The peskiest of all pests and hard to control!

My clients often ask me,  "What can I do to get rid of mosquitos?".  So there are a few measures you can take to help get them under control:

1)  Walk around your property and make sure there is no water collecting where larva can grow.  If you have a pond or fountain regularly treat with a product called Mosquito Dunks to kill the larva in the water.

2)  Use fans on porches and seating areas to create no fly zones for those pesky fliers.  This at least keeps them at bay when seated near the cross breeze.

3)  Gather around fire pits and BBQ grills at nightly gatherings as smoke also repels mosquitos.

4)  Don't go outside during dusk when they are most active.

5)  Pot up some natural repellant plants such as Lemon Grass, Basil, Citronella, Bee Balm, Catnip, Lemon Balm, Lavendar, Peppermint, Rosemary, Artemesia.

6)  Attract predators of mosquitos by creating inviting places for these creatures to nest and eat.  You can easily build or buy a bat house and have a little pet that can eat 600 mosquitos in an hour!  Bring in the birds in our region that eat insects such as Purple Martin, Owls, Mockingbirds, Robins, Woodpeckers, and Wrens.  They will come if you plant berry shrubs like Agarita, Yaupon, and Sumac.  You can also hang up bird feeders that contain sunflower seeds or other seeds they prefer.
