Look at all the different colors, textures, and structures you can work with. And the best part, is you hardly have to water it! What a relief!
The best way to plant cactus is to use a well draining soil, like cactus soil, or mix gravel and gypsum with your existing dirt.
You can find gypsum at a garden store like the Natural Gardener. OR you can get creative by salvaging some dry wall from a construction site and crumbling it up. (it is made out of gypsum!)
Then, plant it on a berm (raised earth) to allow for even more positive drainage. Plant in a hole twice as wide and as deep as the pot. Pack in the dirt, give a little water, top dress with gravel, and mostly forget about it!
