Golman African Children's Kindergarten

The BLOG to check for UPDATES!

Several years ago, My Husband did four months of service in Uganda and met a unique man: Masaidio Kalenga. Over the past 6 years, we have helped him attend university. Now graduated, he is planning to open a kindergarten in the impoverished community of eastern Uganda.

We threw a fundraiser party to purchase essential materials for the African Children's Kindergarten. We have almost attained our goal of $2,000 to get it going for its first year.

Masaidio's Story: Rarely in life do we meet a person like Masaidio Kalenga. His story is not what makes him so special, although it is profound. It is his strength of character. Here is a brief glimpse at a humble, warm man who survived tragedy, overcame triumph, and now selflessly fights to better the world.

Masaidio grew up in Goma, Congo in the cradle of extreme poverty and violence. He was forced to flee from his home to Kampala, Uganda where he could find relative safety. Alone at the age of 19, he had to start his life over as a refugee in a new country, also riddled with violence.

He then attended university in Kampala, Uganda and graduated several years later. Instead of going to work in the city, he decided to give back to the townspeople of Easter Uganda.

Masaidio worked in a poor village, teaching the villagers how to better produce food with their land. He then moved to another village called Nawanyago, where he met a group of young children who would just sit at home from sunrise to sunset. Understanding first hand the opportunities that an education reveals, he began envisioning a plan to open a small kindergarten of about 20 children and a teacher in this village.

He knew the enormity of the task, but resolved to send the young kids in his extremely impoverished community to school. Masaido's words: "After living in the rural area for nearly 2 years, I realized that every human being has the potential to transcend the limitations imposed to him/her by nature provided that he/she gets the appropriate education.

Our next goal: to turn the project into a non-profit that will serve two purposes:
1. Grow the Kindergarten to serve more students.
2. Create direct sponsorship between Americans at home with the eager people of Uganda to attend University.

Many people wish go to University to create a better life, and to give back to their community. Many people here want to help, but don't know how. It is very affordable to send someone to school, and takes a small commitment to do a great service. It also enable the sponsor to communicate directly with the student they sponsor!
